It’s a classic tale: The Musical Road of Mark Kerr
It’s a classic tale: The Musical Road of Mark Kerr
It’s a tale of growth, sacrifice…and success. It’s Mark Kerr’s story. Mark Kerr is a Tennessee native. What does that mean? It means he’s steeped in music. It runs through his very soul, and Mark has that uncanny innate ability to turn it round and out to the world that’s distinct to real musicians.
But Mark never found success beyond his grasp. Like I said, it’s a classic tale. At twelve, his course was clear. MUSIC was IT. And from his earliest days he’s built bridges that have connected him, not to his peers alone, but to the world at large. Not to fame and fortune, but to the driving force…the music!
Kerr picked up the guitar at twelve and before long, was receiving recognition for his musical abilities. Where many kids at that age are content to watch TV, play video games or just “hang out,” Mark had one singularly focused ambition. He wanted to become a musician. I mean, it was his LIFE! Often as not, he’d fall asleep at night with his guitar still “strapped on.” We’re talking commitment here.
It’s that sterling passion for music that ruled his life, and set his course for the future. The only reason he wanted to graduate High School was so that he could just get ON with his music. College? Naw…not right away. He couldn’t wait to get on the road and share his gift for musical expression with the world. To play in a band! Now THAT’s the real deal.
To quote him, “I was so hungry inside to graduate and get into a road band and start seeing the world and making a living doing it that school was the last thing on my mind. I was ready to start chasing the dream."
And that’s exactly what he did…and did it well!
Mark Kerr’s passion and talent has allowed him to step up and play with some of the most esteemed musicians in the world. Who, you might ask? Guys like Percy Sledge and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Curtis Mayfield's Impressions.
After thirteen years of touring, Mark attended Northwestern State University where he studied music theory, while working very diligently on his jazz, blues and rock skills. He was nominated for Musician of the Year in 2006 by The Academy of Texas Music, for his guitar work on his debut CD, “One Drink Away From The Blues.” And that led to his debut CD being featured on some 250 land based and internet radio stations worldwide.
Coming soon is his second CD, “Every Dog Has It's Day,” scheduled for release in August of 2007. This is going to be a monster!
Currently a Louisiana resident, Mark Kerr just seems to keep going…keep growing…on that long musical road. You see, it’s the MUSIC, not all the trappings, that drives this amazing talent.
And that’s rare these days, my friend,…oh, so rare.
